VIOLIN FACULTY

Maria Cordeiro Gomes began her musical studies and classical ballet training at the Conservatório de Música da Covilhã. After completing secondary education at the Escola Profissional de Artes da Beira Interior in the class of Professor António Ramos, she continued her academic training at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in violin in the class of Professor Alexandra Mendes.

She has been qualified to teach specialised artistic music education since 2011. She has participated in numerous masterclasses in instrument performance and pedagogy with teachers such as Ifrah Neaman, Zakhar Bron, Jiri Tomasek, Peter Röbke and Stefan Kamilarov, among others.

She has been teaching violin since 2000. Throughout her career, she has taught at the Academia de Música de Alcobaça, the Sociedade Filarmónica Gualdim Pais and the Conservatório Regional de Setúbal. She also co-founded the music academies at the Colleges of S. Tomás and Mira Rio in Lisbon. Since 2008, she has been a violin and orchestra teacher at the Conservatório Regional de Música da Covilhã, where she was also a member of the pedagogical board from 2010 to 2016.

She performs regularly in orchestral settings, collaborating with ensembles such as the Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra Sinfonietta de Lisboa, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra das Beiras, Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa, Orquestra Sinfónica de Thomar and Orquestra Alma Mater, among others. She has worked with various renowned conductors and musicians across different musical styles. As a violinist and violist, she has participated in theatre productions, ballet performances and other multidisciplinary artistic projects. As part of chamber groups and orchestras, she frequently contributes to recordings and soundtracks for television and film.

She views music as a universal, therapeutic and integrative concept and has therefore developed and led musical projects for different communities. She is currently in the second year of a Master’s degree in Music Therapy at the Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa. With the intention of providing her three children with the opportunity to grow up in a calmer environment, she currently lives in Covilhã.
