Portuguese soprano Ana Paula Russo holds degrees in voice performance from the National Conservatory and the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. She also studied in Salzburg and Lucerne with Elisabeth Grümmer and H. Diez and worked with Gino Becchi, C. Thiolass, Regine Resnick and Marimi del Pozo. She was awarded several prizes in national and international competitions, including the Olga Violante, Oviedo, and Luisa Todi competitions. In 1989, she represented Portugal at the BBC Cardiff “Singer of the World” competition. Throughout her career, she has performed numerous operatic roles, such as "Rosina" (The Barber of Seville), "Marie" (The Daughter of the Regiment), "Musetta" (La Bohéme), "Eurydice" (Orpheus in Hell), "Nightingale" (in Stravinsky's homonymous opera), among many others. She was also invited to sing one of the main roles in the opera “White Raven” by Philip Glass, with performances at Expo ’98, Teatro Real de Madrid, and Lincoln Center. As a soloist, she has performed in countless art song recitals and oratorio concerts presenting, among many other works, Schönberg's “The Book of the Hanging Gardens” and Webern's Cantata, Op. 29, in venues such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and as part of several international festivals. Her extensive discography includes a varied repertoire, with a greater focus on Portuguese music, such as Fernando Lopes-Graça's Requiem, in which she was the soprano-soloist, and the operas “Le Donne Cambiate” by Marcos Portugal and “Os Dias Levantados” by Pinho Vargas. Ana Paula Russo is a faculty member of the Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional and the Academia de Música de Almada.
